Dr. Rushvi S. Desai is originally from the Indianapolis area, and is excited to join the Williamsburg community. She received her undergraduate degree from Indiana University with a major in Microbiology, minor in Chemistry, and certificate in Business Foundations. She then attended Purdue University in Indianapolis to complete her Masters in Biology. Her passion for healthcare led her to Indiana University School of Optometry, where she graduated with her doctorate in 2022. Dr. Desai obtained clinical experience in ocular disease, pediatrics, neuro-optometry, contact lenses, dry eye, and primary care.
She then went on to complete her residency in ocular disease and vision rehabilitation at the Tallahassee, FL Veterans Affairs Clinic, in which she obtained extensive training in management and treatment of various ocular diseases, utilization of medically necessary contact lenses, low vision therapies, and urgent eye care.
Dr. Desai strives to deliver the highest quality eye care for all her patients, and loves learning about the latest medical advances. Her commitment to the field is evident in the awards she has received, including induction into the Gold Key Society, which is the highest leadership award an optometry student can receive. During her time at the Huntington, WV Veterans Affairs Clinic, she was awarded the Bronze Oak Leaf Award for outstanding clinical care after being nominated by several patients.
Dr. Desai has completed extensive research on the intersection between traumatic brain injuries and the effect it can have on vision. She has presented numerous findings at national optometric conferences. She plans to continue this work in the future.
When she is not in the office caring for her patients, you can find Dr. Desai exploring the outdoors, watching movies, traveling with her family, and rooting for the Indiana University basketball team (“Go Hoosiers!”) with her fiancé. She is currently dreaming about adopting a corgi puppy!
