Eye Center of Virginia is excited to announce the addition of a new doctor! Dr. Derek Evans is now accepting new patients!
Dr. Derek Evans comes to us from a large ophthalmology practice in Fredericksburg, VA. Here he gained significant experience in pre and post operative care of cataract, glaucoma, cornea, and refractive surgery.
Dr. Evans earned his microbiology and immunology degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, VA and his Doctorate of Optometry from the Southern California College of Optometry. His clinical training included rotations at Lawton Indian Hospital, in Lawton OK, George E. Whalen VA Medical Center in Salt Lake City, and Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, MD at the Naval Hospital. It was here that Dr. Evans was challenged with fitting complex post-surgical corneas with specialty contact lenses, an area he takes great interest in to this day.
In addition to disease management and complex contact lens fittings, Dr. Evans enjoys both comprehensive and pediatric eye care. "I find it very rewarding to work with children. Building a rapport with them comes naturally to me", says Dr. Evans. His interest in pediatrics was spurred by his Uncle, a well known academic at Southern California College of Optometry in the areas of binocular vision, vision therapy, and management of eye turns (strabismus) in children.
Dr. Evans grew up in Annandale, Virginia, with his parents recently retiring to the outer banks. Dr. Evans his wife Tonia, a Virginia Tech graduate, and their 7 year old son recently purchased a home in Williamsburg. They love the area and are having a great time exploring all that Williamsburg has to offer. In Dr. Evans' free time, he enjoys golf, snowboarding, surfing, fishing and watching his son's baseball team. We welcome you Dr. Evans and Family!!!
